Kathy Anne Nelson (nee Jonas), passed away on January 21, 2019, at the age of 69 years old.

Kathy was born January 30, 1949 to Capt. George S. & Dorothy E. Jonas (nee Tracey) in Tokyo, Japan where her father was stationed at Yokota AB, Japan.

As part of a military family she spent time in El Salvador, Lake Charles, LA, Waco, TX, San Antonio, TX and Wiesbaden, Germany (Rhein Main AB). She attended several schools to include Woodlawn Hills Elementary, St. Luke's Catholic School and Providence HS (San Antonio, TX) and finally graduating from General H.H. Arnold HS in (Wiesbaden, Germany). Upon return to the U.S. she attended San Antonio Community College where she obtained an Associates Degree. Later she worked and trained at the McKown Dental Clinic on Lackland AFB, TX where she obtained a Dental Hygienist Certification. In the 1980's, while working at St. Mary's University, she attended night school to further her knowledge and worked towards a degree in Business Administration.

Kathy worked at St. Mary's University where she was Secretary for the Director of Physical Plant (Maintenance) and later in the Bursar's Office. After leaving St. Mary's she started a nearly 20 year career as a Substitute Teacher in the San Antonio Independent School District where she focused mainly in five schools (Huppertz EL, Mann MS, Longfellow MS, Edison HS and Jefferson HS). During her time, she touched many lives. Kathy wasalso involved in many of the Booster Clubs that were associated with the childrens' schools raising money and volunteering to further the Clubs activities. Kathy was the Chairperson for the Lost and Found at the University's Annual Fiesta Oyster Bake For 34 yrs. Kathy was also a member of the Beethoven Damenchor and the Harp & Shamrock Society

Kathy is survived by her husband of 31 yrs, David Nelson Sr., Sons David Nelson Jr. (Allen, TX), Patrick Bell and wife Becky (Mckinney, TX), Michael Nelson and wife Alex (Menchaca, TX), Daughters Tracey Bell-Carmichael and husband Robbie (San Antonio, TX), Melissa Summerville and husband Eric (San Antonio, TX) and Dorothy Nelson and wife Kristen (San Antonio, TX), sister Lynn Tuter and husband Del (Las Vegas, NV), brother Christopher Jonas (Corpus Christi, TX), 8 grandkids and an even larger extended family.

A Celebration of Kathy's life will be held at Beethoven Maennerchor Hall at 422 Pereida St, San Antonio, TX 78210, on February 2, 2019 from 1-5 pm.
